Proposals for the living use of abandoned schools

My project is a proposal on how to make abandoned schools come to life. Declining birth rates and fewer children of school age are major problems facing Asian countries. Especially Korea. Many elementary schools in Korea are at risk of being abandoned because of a shortage of children. However, the price of land in Korea is relatively high, and if the school is allowed to remain abandoned, it will cause a series of problems such as wasted resources. Therefore, there is an urgent need to solve the problem of how to rejuvenate these abandoned schools. I chose an abandoned elementary school by the scenic Han River. Using the improvement method of this school as a starting point, I proposed a proposal for the disposal of abandoned schools throughout Korea. It is now a social environment of learning for all and lifelong learning. Not only students need to learn, but also people in the workplace and even the elderly need to learn every day. And as the Chinese saying goes, “There is a teacher for all three.” We can learn not only from our teachers, but also from our friends around us. That’s why I proposed the “station school” project, which integrates a school and a community center. This place is like a station, where some people leave to go home after classes, and others continue to study other subjects here. It contains facilities such as a kindergarten, a village for the elderly, and a library. And now is an intelligent era, using the Internet can help solve a lot of problems, but also can be more convenient for our lives. For example, senior citizens with limited mobility can see scenery around the world through virtual reality, as well as activity center reservations can be done through a mobile app. That’s why my project is called “smart station school”, hoping that all the abandoned schools in Korea will be reborn and their existence will become meaningful.
